I need a good, newsworthy topic?

I am a college student with a journalism class and works for the newspaper. Right now campus isn't directly available but I still need to write for my class. Instead, I had an interesting idea. I was going to ask the public what they would be interested in. This will also help with some of my other homework. If you could write for the paper or for your local news station, what would you want to hear about? What would you have them say?
