My accident claim was denied?

I broke my knee badly 6 months ago and been of work since.i slipped on some steel at work and boss saw me get up of the floor.i told him I banged my knee slipping on steel.i had go to hospital, work wouldn't pay me and also they denied steel was there.i had put claim in but my works told pack of lies and now there insurance won't pay out due to evidence.my solicitor said they might get barrister but been told if I do get pay out could be years.i falling way behind on bills I.close to losing everything.i have no choice to go back to work in few week knowing my knee not perfect.is it normal for insurance to deny claim? My solicitor thinks I can live on fresh air and says we give them few month to reply to letter.i don't know what im gonna do.my bosses lied covered it up,i would swear on my kids life I not lied steel was definetly there
